    Notes
    • Comments: Good morning,
Florence HART married John Francis ELLERTON in 1888 at Tiverton, Devon and were two of my great-grandparents.
Florence's father was Frank Bartholomew HART and his father was Charles HART, ironmonger of Farnham. Charles' first wife was a Mary ........ someone ........ until last night. Whilst trawling through Google I came across a Google book scan of The Monthly Magazine which read "Marriages in and near London Nov 1821: Mr Charles Hart, of Farnham, to Miss Smith, of Bentley Green". (Bentley is just down the A31 south west of Farnham.) From IGI I found that a Mary SMITH was baptised on 5 Oct 1803 at Farnham and that her father was Willis Smith. I thought to myself that somehow I knew that name and sure enough, Charles and Mary's penultimate child was named George Willis Smith HART. I have been trying to track down Mary's surname for years and now I am sure I have it. After Mary died, Charles, as you know, married another SMITH (Charlotte). Whether Charlotte and Mary were related ..... well, who knows!
Just thought I would pass this info onto you so that you can keep your incredible records up to date.
      Best wishes to you.
      John

    • East Street [Farnham in Surrey] families

Mary Hart, (my 1st cousin 4 times removed), married George Peacock in 1845. George died in 1869.

Isabel Keen (1st cousin once removed of George Sturt 1863-1827), married John Ellerton in 1869 and went to live in Tiverton.

Mary Peacock née Hart married John Ellerton's father Francis in 1873.

Florence Hart married John Ellerton in 1888 after Isabel's death in 1887. Florence was Mary's niece - daughter of Frank.

Isabel's father was William Keen who was in partnership with George Sturt, his brother-in-law. The Peacocks, Keens and Sturts all lived close together in East Street - see "Farnham Buildings and People" by Nigel Temple for more information.

This is the George Sturt who wrote under the name of George Bourne. "The Wheelwright's Shop" being one of them.

      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

George Sturt (1863-1927), who also wrote under the pseudonym George Bourne, was an English writer on rural crafts and affairs. He was born and grew up in Farnham, Surrey. Sturt was a grammar school teacher until 1894 when his father died, after which he took over and ran the family wheelwright shop in Farnham, where he continued to live for the rest of his life. He wrote numerous books and articles under the name George Bourne, including a novel.
